Meghan Markle and Prince Harry confirmed that they are returning to the U.K. with their kids for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebration. The palace already announced that the royals who will accompany the Queen on the balcony are limited to those who are actively working for the firm, but the Sussexes might just make a balcony appearance.
Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Could Make A Balcony Appearance With This Twist
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are not working royals. However, there's still a way for them to make a balcony appearance during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebration.
According to Daily Express royal correspondent Richard Palmer, there could be a second balcony moment, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might be able to join the royals by then.
The Queen's Jubilee celebration will last for four days. The final day — the Platinum Jubilee Pageant — will be on a Sunday.
"The finale will feature Ed Sheeran and other performers and 100 national treasures, as they describe them," he told Daily Express' Royal Round-Up host Pandora. "At the end of that, there is something planned, but they are keeping it close to their chest about exactly what will happen."
He noted that on the final night of the celebration, he hinted that the royal family would make an appearance. However, it is still not clear whether the royal family will be in a royal box or balcony.
According to Palmer, one of his colleagues asked if there will be another balcony appearance, but the royal aide only responded with a smile before nodding his head. Palmer believed that the response was a "yes."
Palmer concluded that if there will be another balcony appearance, Prince Harry and Markle will likely be part of it.
Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Allegedly Forced To Accept A Downgraded Role
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visited the Queen last month before they headed to the Netherlands for the Invictus Games. Their decision to return to the U.K. to join the royal family for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebration delighted their fans.
However, they had to accept a downgraded role. For instance, they won't be able to join Queen Elizabeth II on the balcony on Trooping the Colour because the monarch decided to limit the balcony appearance to active working royals. Also, there are concerns that they might steal the limelight from Her majesty, so their appearance should be limited.
"They have been forced to accept a downgraded role - grouped with all the other VIPs - but are clearly desperate not to be excluded," royal biographer Tom Bower told MailOnline Friday, per Express. "If the Palace is not remarkably careful, the Sussexes will milk the celebrations for their own benefit."
The Rebel Prince: The Power, Pasion and Defiance of Prince Charles author added, "Hopefully, the Sussexes will be kept firmly in check to avoid their selfish interests dominating the celebration of the Queen's awe-inspiring service to Britain."
