According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney recently conducted a screen test for several actresses and actors who are being eyed to play the lead roles in the Tangled live-action remake.

For the role of Rapunzel, Freya Skye (Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires), Sarah Catherine Hook (The White Lotus), Teagan Croft (Titans), and Olivia-Mai Barrett (Invasion) were tested and seen as potential frontrunners for the coveted lead role.

The Summer I Turned Pretty star Lola Tung was also reportedly in the mix, but she ultimately decided not to proceed with the screen test due to a potential scheduling conflict related to the continuation of her hit series.

Meanwhile, for the role of Flynn Rider, Milo Manheim (Zombies), Charlie Gillespie (Julie and the Phantoms), and Scottish actor Gilli Jones are the ones who have tested and are currently in the mix.

It is unknown yet when the official decision will be made, but we should expect to hear some reports and announcements sooner rather than later.

As for the role of Mother Gothel, the search is still underway after Scarlett Johansson reportedly dropped out of the role due to commitments in other projects, such as The Exorcist and The Batman Part II.

What to Expect in Tangled Live-Action Remake

The original Tangled film follows the magically long-haired Rapunzel, who has spent her entire life in a tower, but now that a runaway thief has stumbled upon her, she is about to discover the world for the first time and who she really is. The live-action remake will likely follow the same plot.

The Greatest Showman's Michael Gracey is attached to direct the film. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is working on the screenplay. It is unknown yet whether some of the creative team from the original film is involved.

So far, there is no release date set yet for the live-action remake. Production is currently scheduled to begin in June 2026 in England.
