Scarlett Johansson will reportedly play a prominent villainous role in Disney's live adaptation of Tangled.
Due to the success of Lilo & Stitch, Tangled will soon become a part of Disney's roster of adaptations that hopes to knock the audience's socks off. Here's everything we know so far.

Tangled may have initially faced being indefinitely shelved in April 2025, but now, a new report from Deadline claims that the live-action is once again in active development and is planning on listing one of the highest-grossing stars in Hollywood to portray the villain.
According to reports, Scarlett Johansson will be taking on the role of Mother Gothel, with The Greatest Showman's Michael Gracey reportedly still directing, based on Jennifer Kaytin Robinson's script.
Considering Johansson's jaw-dropping performance as the voice of Ash in both animated films, Sing and Sing 2, she might just be a shoo-in to depict Mother Gothel in live-action.
She has also previously played villainous roles, including the seductive alien predator in Under the Skin and being the "mean sister" in Home Alone 3 when she was still a rising child star. What remains to be seen is when this news will be officially confirmed.
Who Else is Being Considered for the Live-Action Tangled Adaptation?

Apart from the new take on the classic tale of Rapunzel, Tangled featured a lifelong dream of adventure after being stuck up on that tower for years, so it's crucial that the lead actors not only give fantastical vocal performances, but are expected to embody the original animation, too (as most live adaptations demand).
Previous reports revealed that supermodel Gigi Hadid auditioned for Rapunzel while Bridgerton's Corey Mylchreest auditioned for Flynn before the project was allegedly canceled.
Although most fan castings include Amanda Seyfried to take the lead, a better idea for fans is to have the original voice actors, Mandy Moore (Rapunzel), and Zachary Levi (Flynn) on board in live-action. It would be a grand transformation.
