It was confirmed earlier this month that Mayans MC Season 5 would mark the end of the FX series, to the dismay of fans. Though the announcement came as a surprise, actor JD Pardo explained that the choice was made after much consideration and collaboration.
Mayans MC Season 5 Ending a Collaborative Choice, Star Says
Mayans MC is set in the same universe as Sons of Anarchy, but it follows one of its rival gangs. Fans have grown to know and love Ezekial (EZ) Reyes, his brother Angel, and the rest of the motorcycle gang over the years.
Many fans are understandably disappointed that the series is coming to an end. However, JD Pardo, who plays EZ, assured fans that the decision to end at Mayans MC Season 5 was made collaboratively.
“This was a creative decision that we made together,” the actor wrote on Twitter. “I will address this with a little more thought when I get a moment. We are on set filming Season 5 right now. Can’t wait for you all to see what’s in store this season! Much love to you all!”
Pardo continued: “I’ve been killed off of shows, had shows canceled, etc. This is different because the decision is ours. I have no regrets. I just have love and gratitude for the fans and the opportunity we were given.”
The End of the Sons of Anarchy Follow-up
Co-creator Elgin James made a previous appearance at the 2022 Comic-Con Mayans MC panel. He officially announced Mayans MC Season 5 there.
“I can’t wait to see what we’re able to create together moving forward,” the showrunner stated, according to Deadline.
According to Variety, FX Content and FX Productions chairman John Landgraf made the decision when beginning the network's presentation at the Television Critics Association's winter 2023 press tour, which also signals the end of Mayans MC.
What's Next for Mayans MC?
Coco and Manny died in the previous season's looming war with the Sons of Anarchy. Following the bloodshed, EZ is eager to go to war with the Sons, but Alvarez is wary.
EZ pulls the kill switch to kick Alvarez out of his own club out of frustration. EZ takes the helm of the meeting instead of Bishop, who is reinstated as president. As a result of his police confession, Creeper is held accountable for all of his club's wrongdoings.
