Following the triumphant run of X-Men ‘97, fans are excited to know about the next appearances of Marvel’s Merry Mutants, especially in the MCU.
Since Disney completed its acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019, Marvel has been dropping names and cameos of mutants in films and series.
In a recent interview, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige teased the official arrival of the mutants in the MCU: “July 26 is really when it all starts when Deadpool and Wolverine comes out."
Aside from the two leads, almost all characters in the movie are straight from mutant lore, like big bad Cassandra Nova, X-Men members Colossus and Pyro, and villain Sabretooth, among many others.
However, Feige declined to comment about the live-action movie reportedly to be penned by The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes writer Michael Lesslie. As of writing, no talent or director has been attached to the project.
With Marvel’s release calendar jam-packed for 2025 and Avengers 5 and 6 scheduled for a back-to-back 2026-27 release, it may take a while before an X-Men movie comes to fruition.
X-Men ‘97 Season 2 will continue Season 1’s “emotional ride”
On the brighter side, production for Season 2 of X-Men ‘97 is ongoing, with the TV head, Brad Winterbaum, confirming the studio’s plan to match the first season’s story and presentation.
Earlier, he asked fans to be patient, with production now entering the long and tedious “animatic phase.”
"We've got big plans for the second season," he shared on The Official Marvel Podcast. “We're well on our way to creating something that hits the heights of the first season. I know the first season is an emotional ride. That ride continues in a very X-Men fashion in the second season.”
The second season of X-Men ‘97 is expected to resolve the major cliffhangers from the season finale, in which the X-Men were dragged across time and arrived in different timelines. In the present, Apocalypse arrives in Genosha.
