Marvel Studios dropped several bombshells over the weekend at the D23 Expo that pretty much gave fans an even better idea of how Phases 5 and 6 will shape up. Still, surprisingly, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe weren't satisfied with the studio's announcements with some even finding the presentation more lackluster than what Kevin Feige did during San Diego Comic-Con.
Fans of the highly anticipated X-Men reboot were hoping that D23 would serve as the platform for some much-needed news surrounding the mutants' MCU debut but no announcements were made. Now, according to a new report, it looks like Feige and his crew aren't in a hurry to incorporate the likes of Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm into the billion-dollar franchise.
Deadline's Justin Kroll shared on Twitter that the studio's X-Men project is still years away, meaning no casting decisions have been made. He also said that the film "isn't happening for a very long time" and as it stands, Feige has yet to tap the project's screenwriter and director.

It's worth noting that Phases 5 and 6 are already packed with film and television projects and considering we're still in the middle of the Multiverse Saga, adding the X-Men to the fold seems a little excessive, especially given the fact that the Fantastic Four are set to make first MCU appearance in 2024.
We can safely assume for now that Phase 7 will mark the arrival of the mutants and logically speaking, that makes more sense than just randomly throwing them in the mix.
As it stands, the only mutant project confirmed to be in development is Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool 3.
