It's no secret that X-Men '97 showrunner Beau DeMayo won't be a part of X-Men '97 season 2 and there have been conflicting information regarding his controversial firing. Now, Marvel has officially released their statement on an ongoing investigation following his departure.
Marvel Addresses Reason Behind Terminating Beau DeMayo From X-Men '97
Following DeMayo's reported firing from Marvel Animation's X-Men '97 in March, the showrunner claimed that Marvel "stripped" his season 2 credits due to a post he made on his Instagram depicting himself as Cyclops for June's Gay Pride celebration.
By June 13, DeMayo received a letter telling him he had been taken off the animated series. He added that this was a "troubling pattern" he had experienced working on X-Men '97, as well as when he previously worked on Blade.
However, Marvel has recently released an official statement regarding the alleged misconduct of Beau DeMayo behind the scenes.
"Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation," a Marvel spokesperson shared through The Hollywood Reporter, "Given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately, and he has no further affiliation with Marvel."
After Marvel had addressed DeMayo's exit, the former showrunner responded with, "The truth will be revealed."
DeMayo further elaborated his statement by adding: "After their Disney Plus disaster, Marvel wants to mislead with alleged contract breaches over tweets. It's tragic it's come to this but unsurprising. Stay tuned."
The Moon Knight writer exited X-Men '97 after completing seasons 1 and 2 ahead of its series premiere. Still, DeMayo claimed that this is merely a part of the Disney-Marvel 'playbook' and that he would keep fans posted on what happens next.
As he added, "This is their Disney-Marvel's usual playbook. Legal letters and other items are needed to prove their long-standing pattern. It's about finding a safe outlet. Thanks for your faith and patience."
