Marvel might not be particularly open about its plans for the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Endgame, however, the studio hasn't been afraid to discuss its upcoming prequel films, The Eternals and Black Widow.
Now, as fans continue to wait for the premiere of one of Marvel's most highly anticipated films of the year, a new rumor regarding The Eternals has begun running up and down the mill, whispering word about the lead male character of the movie.
According to a new report by MCU Cosmic, Marvel may very well opt to make Hercules the lead character of the Eternals. Based on the Heracles of Greek and Roman mythos, Hercules is a character which posses the typical powers of an Olympian god. This includes superhuman strength, durability, quick reflexes, speed, stamina, and endurance.
In the comics, Hercules is the strongest of the Olympians and is resistant to all earthly illnesses.
While a superpowered Olympian as the lead character of The Eternals doesn't seem like much of a surprise, the site also writes that Marvel may actually be planning to make Hercules the first openly gay lead character in the MCU.
That's definitely an interesting move. Though it might spark controversy among fans, the possibility of Marvel featuring its first openly gay lead is definitely a big progressive step for the franchise.
Marvel has certainly been learning how to open itself to the joys of representation and diversity ever since the success of Black Panther. We can't wait to see what the studio does with The Eternals.
The Eternals has yet to receive a release date but we'll update everyone as soon as we get word.
