Disney and Marvel Studios are set to launch an Oscar campaign for Deadpool & Wolverine following its massive box office success.
The recent MCU film became one of the summer's biggest hits as it managed to earn more than $1.3 billion at its box office and become the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time.
It was also received well by both fans and critics as they praised the titular heroes' chemistry and how it was a return to form for the MCU after years of experiencing a slump in its post-Avengers: Endgame era.
Deadpool & Wolverine to Launch Oscar Campaign
Reports have confirmed that Deadpool & Wolverine is launching an Oscar campaign to be considered in various categories and awards shows.
The film is vying for nominations in major categories such as acting nominations for Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman and technical categories such as production design, sound, and visual effects.
Reynolds is being submitted for consideration in Best Actor for his performance as the Merc with a Mouth while Jackman will be positioned in the Best Supporting Actor race for his celebrated return as Wolverine.
While superhero films don't usually get nominated in major categories at awards shows, we've seen in the past few years that The Academy is starting to embrace the films in that genre as Black Panther and Joker received Best Picture nominations.
Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix have won an Oscar for their respective portrayals of the Joker while Angela Bassett made history as the first performer to receive an acting nomination for an MCU film with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Since a precedent has been set, there is a possibility that Deadpool & Wolverine will be embraced by various awards shows including the Oscars, and accompany its box office success with gold. It is interesting to see whether the campaign will lead to some nominations.
