Marvel is Bringing Back Superior Spider-Man

Marvel has announced something fairly shocking; the return of Superior Spider-Man to comics. The new series will debut this December, written by Spider-Geddon scribe Christos Gage with illustrations from artist Mike Hawthorne.

Fans need not worry as Otto Octavius will not be taking over Peter Parker's body. At the end of CloneConspiracy he made a new clone body that had the same powers Peter Parker had, and he went by Superior Octopus at one point. In fact, there's a Superior Octopus one-shot that will tie-in to Spider-Geddon also written by Gage, so that might be set up this series.

Seemingly set after Spider-Geddon, the series has Otto taking up the Superior mantle again to prove that he is the best superhero in the world. It's gonna be interesting seeing a Superior Spider-Man co-exist with the Amazing one we all know and love. He'll also have to contend with Miles Morales - who is still Spider-Man despite teasing that he'd stop using the identity in Spider-Men II - and Peter's clones; Kaine and Ben Reilly.

The solicitation of the first issue is pretty vague but it does promise to be surprising in a similar vein to the original, which took a lot of chances for a Marvel ongoing series.

Superior Spider-Man #1 hits comic stores this December.
