Marvel Demands Politician to Cease From Dressing Up as Captain America in His Campaign

It looks like Marvel Entertainment has warned a US politician to stop bringing Captain America into politics by dressing up as Marvel's First Avenger.

According to a report by Patch, Marvel Entertainment just recently asked New York City Councilman Ben Kallos to put an end to using Marvel Comics characters for political purposes. The request came in after Kallos decided to use an image of himself wearing a Captain America outfit in a fundraising email which he labeled the "Superhero Alert."

Apparently, aside from the picture of Kallos as Captain America, the email also contains several references to Marvel superheroes as well.

"While Captain America was pretty busy fighting Hydra, sleeper agents, Loki, Ultron, and Thanos, Ben's been fighting for everyday New Yorkers," the email reads. "Like Captain America, he can do this all day."

Taking to Twitter, the New York City Councilman who represents the Upper East Side of Manhattan decided to share the letter that Marvel sent him in its quest to get Kallos to cease from using Captain America in his campaign. Kallos is currently running for borough president, as the representative of the Upper East Side of Manhattan where most of the Marvel Universe's superhero activity is located, the politician must have thought it would have been great to make a few superhero references here and there.

"I write to request that your campaign refrain from using Marvel's characters in its advertisements for your quest for the Borough Presidency or otherwise," Marvel Chief Eli Bard wrote in his letter to Kallos, "While Marvel appreciates your obvious affection for our properties and welcome your support as a fan, we ask that our characters not be used for political purposes or to support political campaigns."

This isn't the first time that Marvel has asked fans to refrain from using its characters in political campaigns.

What do you think of Marvel's request though? What do you think of Kallos' little stunt? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
