There's a new crossover Magic: The Gathering print-on-demand/ limited-time product that features characters from AMC's The Walking Dead, and many Magic players are not happy about the cards being black-bordered and legal in Eternal Constructed formats. They also don't like how characters from another franchise are being introduced to the game, and fans have expressed their complaints to Magic head designer Mark Rosewater, and today he just answered what many Magic fans want to know.
When asked why they created new cards for Secret Lair x The Walking Dead instead of creating altered, The Walking Dead versions of cards that already exist, Rosewater responded said on his Blogatog, "We wanted to create top down designs that specifically captured the characters, so that fans of the show could see characters they know optimally expressed as Magic cards".
Last Monday, Rosewater responded to the complaints about the new The Walking Dead cards, and on Tuesday, he didn't post on his Blogatog for 24 hours (an extremely rare occurance), but yesterday he explained the reason why.
Rosewaterwent on to say, "When players are unhappy, it's my job to understand that unhappiness and convey the nuance of it back to Wizards. Me understanding things is far more important at times like this than me saying things."
Secret Lair x The Walking Dead will be available for preorder on October 4-12 on secretlair.wizards.com for $49.99/£49.99/€54.99.
