Magic: The Gathering The Lord of the Rings: Tales From Middle-Earth Will Have Borderless Scene Cards

Wizards of the Coast has shared more details for The Lord of the Rings: Tales from Middle-Earth, the upcoming Magic: The Gathering Universes Beyond set, which is set to release in Q3 2023. This crossover set was announced back in 2021 as part of a larger Universes Beyond announcement, and it will feature the iconic heroes and villains of J.R.R. Tolkien's popular epic fantasy franchise, such as Frodo, Gandalf, Gollum, and the Balrog.

The update comes from today's Wizards Presents event. In addition to the announcement that a Magic: The Gathering Doctor Who crossover set is coming, more details about The Lord of the Rings crossover set have been revealed.

The Lord of the Rings: Tales from Middle-Earth will be fully draftable Modern legal booster release, and it showcases a carefully-crafted design like a Core set.

The Universes Beyond set will also have new card treatments called a Borderless Scene card. These cards each have their own individual art, but when put together at their edges, they form larger art pieces depicting scenes from J.R.R. Tolkien's novels. One of the artworks is an 18-card illustration of The Battle of the Pelennor Fields from Return Of The King.

Wizards of the Coast also revealed new artwork for characters including Gandalf, Frodo, and the Balrog. Check out the new images below:

Besides a tabletop release, Tales Of Middle Earth will also be released on Magic: The Gathering Arena as an Alchemy set.

During the Wizards Presents event, Wizards also shared a new look at the Magic: The Gathering Warhammer 40,000 crossover with Games Workshop, which is set to release on October 7 this year. The publisher shared details about the set's four factions: Chaos, the Imperium of Man, Nechrons, and Tyranids – and explained thateach will feature their own playstyles as well as a Sol Ring card with unique artwork.
