He may have been a short-lived character in Star Wars' live-action universe, but fans will forever remember General Grievous for his iconic and meme-worthy "hello there" exchange with Obi-Wan Kenobi. Well, it turns out that actor Matthew Wood, who provided voice work for the character in 2005's Revenge of the Sith wasn't Lucasfilm's original pick to portray the now-legendary character.
A lot of you may not be aware of this fact but Harry Potter and The Dark Knight trilogy star Garry Oldman almost joined the Star Wars franchise as the ruthless baddie. In an interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Oldman confirmed that he already did voice work for Grievous before quietly exiting the project.
Oldman recalls: "I did a voice for Star Wars... was it General Grievous? What happened was something to do with union stuff and non-union stuff. Lucas directed me through the whole thing. Yeah, he was terrific."

Speaking of Grievous, it's a shame that the villain was written off way too early in the prequel trilogy because I always thought he had loads of potential. Now, while a prequel project centered on him seems like a farfetched idea, I honestly wouldn't mind seeing him back in the live-action universe but hey, that's just me.
Meanwhile, Lucasfilm's Obi-Wan Kenobi series is streaming exclusively on Disney+.
