LOTR: The War of the Rohirrim Release Date
Created by Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Blade Runner: Black Lotus' Kenji Kamiyama, The War of the Rohirrim also included original film franchise creators Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, who were confirmed working as executive producers on the feature film.
The first 20 minutes of the anime feature was previewed at the Annecy Animation Festival, but when can we watch the entire film?
Well, Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will be screening internationally starting December 11, 2024.
New Lord of the Rings Flick Brings Back Old Faces
Despite the involvement of original franchise helmer Peter Jackson along with screenwriter Fran Walsh, Jackson was unfortunately not present at the animation festival.
However, he did produce a segment video of him introducing The War of the Rohirrim while playing a funny skit where Gollum 'interrupts' his short video, thanks to Andy Serkis performing his Gollum voice.
The prequel also happens to have brought back Miranda Otto, who originally played the character Éowyn in The Lord of the Rings films. This time, fans will get to see her role as a narrator in the new film.
What is The War of the Rohirrim Story About?
Set nearly 200 years before Bilbo Baggins found the ring of power, the prequel centers on the King of Rohan (voiced by Brian Cox) and his strong-willed daughter, Princess Héra (voiced by Gaia Wise), described to be akin to Hayao Miyazaki's films like Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.
The prequel shows the "strong, rebellious" Princess Héra has met her match with the film's antagonist, Wulf (voiced by Luke Pasqualino), who would lead the armies of Dunlendings against Helm's kingdom.
What makes Wulf dangerous compared to the common antagonists in the original franchise is that he is no evil wizard or dark lord but a mere human being.
