Amazon Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will delve into an epic origin story imagined by J.R.R. Tolkien but never fleshed out.Vanity Fair recently shared an expansive preview that give us our first look at the show's cast and big budget production. In the first-look, co-showrunner Patrick McKay revealed the driving force behind taking on the epic behind the creation of titular rings.
"Rings for the elves, rings for dwarves, rings for men, and then the one ring Sauron used to deceive them all," McKay explained. "It’s the story of the creation of all those powers, where they came from, and what they did to each of those races. Can we come up with the novel Tolkien never wrote and do it as the mega-event series that could only happen now?"
Amazon made that possible, with McKay and J.D. Payne serving as showrunners for the epic series. The show will feature various fantasy series, and 22 main stars in cast of The Rings of Power. Those familiar of Tolkien's books and Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies already know Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Elrond (Robert Armayo). Others will be entirely new characters created for the series, including Halbrand (Charlie Vickers) and Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova).
