Lin-Manuel Miranda to Possibly Write a Moana Sequel with a Latina Princess

Lin-Manuel Miranda has built a good rapport with Disney what with his work on Moana and just recently Mary Poppins Returns. Now news has it that he's teaming up with Disney again to give audiences the studio's first Latina Princess.

According to Page Six, this will serve as a follow-up to his work on Moana with Miranda's father saying, "He is talking to Disney about a sequel to ‘Moana,' but the movie would be about a Latina princess."

Now I believe there could be some kind of miscommunication with the information here. When it comes to Miranda's work being a "follow-up" I was thinking that it just meant it was his next Disney writing project after Moana and not a straight-up sequel. Besides, if we're going to get a new princess, wouldn't it be better for her to get her own film than to be introduced in a sequel to another princess' franchise?

Until I hear anything official from Disney or Miranda himself, I'm going to think there was just some misunderstanding. Take what you will from the info, but I believe that Miranda is working on a Disney Princess film, and I doubt it's a sequel to Moana.

Back in 2016, Moana was a smash hit and Miranda had a hand in writing the songs How Far I'll Go and You're Welcome. As for his most recent work, Miranda has played Jack the Lamplighter in Mary Poppins Returns. Now he's reprising his lead role in Hamilton to help raise money for charity.

We don't know when this Latina Disney Princess is making her debut, but hopefully, we get an update before 2019 ends.
