Former One Direction singer Liam Payne passed away on Wednesday, October 16 leaving the music industry stunned. While news sources have reported that he died after falling multiple stories from a hotel balcony in Argentina, an autopsy report details Payne's true cause of death.
What is Liam Payne's Cause of Death? Autopsy Report Shows Polytrauma
As proper authorities investigated the circumstances leading up to Liam Payne's death, the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office No. 16 in Argentina announced in a press release that the 31-year-old died from "polytrauma" and "internal and external hemorrhage" after falling off the third-floor balcony.
According to the US Department of Veterans Affairs, Polytrauma occurs when a person "experiences injuries to multiple body parts and organ systems often" which may or may not always be a "result of blast-related events."
Said "blast-related events" include life-threatening accidents such as motor vehicle accidents, while other causes pertain to suicide and homicide attempts.
Prosecutors said that minutes before Payne's death, Casa Sur hotel workers "called the 911 emergency line to ask for help" for their guest who was "under the influence of drugs and alcohol and who had destroyed some objects in the room."
Further Details From the Autopsy Report
According to the statement, the body of Liam Payne was transferred to a morgue, where the autopsy was performed late Wednesday night.
The forensic experts found that "25 injuries described in the autopsy are compatible with those caused by a fall from a height."
The prosecutors added that Payne's brain injuries were "enough to cause death", and the "internal and external bleeding" in the head and upper body also contributed to his death.
The head of Buenos Aires' public emergency medical services, Alberto Crescenti, confirmed Payne's death through a local media statement, per Todo Noticias and La Nacion.
Liam Payne came to Argentina for his getaway vacation and also got to attend his former One Direction bandmate Niall Horan's concert, The Show: Live on Tour, at the Movistar Arena on October 2.
Payne managed to get together briefly with Niall post-concert, but the tragedy unfolded on October 16.
