The Acolyte star Lee Jung-Jae has finally weighed in on the cancellation news of the Star Wars series.
Earlier this week, we learned that Lucasfilm has decided to not move forward with the second season of the High Republic-set series. A lot of fans have expressed their disappointment on the news online.
So far, there are no plans yet from Lucasfilm to continue the storyline in the series in some capacity and resolve the cliffhangers that were left off in the final episode.
Lee Jung-Jae Reacts to The Acolyte Cancellation
In a recent interview, Lee opened up about his reaction to the surprise cancellation of The Acolyte.
While he was not expected to appear in the second season since his character Sol died in the final episode, he expressed his grievances on the situation and was "surprised" when he heard the news.
"As you know, my character had died already in the first season. So I wouldn't have appeared in the second season if there was one anyway. But personally speaking, I really loved Leslye [Headland]’s writing," the Emmy winner said.
"I thought that she was a great writer and director who was very talented in the storytelling, as well as creating characters and creating meaningful structures within the story. So I was actually personally really looking forward to watching a season 2 with her at the helm. To hear the news, I was quite surprised personally as well."
Despite that, Lee is still hopeful that Lucasfilm and Disney will change their mind and that The Acolyte will get renewed at some point.
"To hear the news, I was quite surprised personally as well. Because you never know what's going to happen. So on a personal level, I really hope we could get to see further stories of Leslye’s second season," he added.
Lee is the second cast member of The Acolyte who has publicly reacted to the news, following Manny Jacinto who shared his reaction recently in a social media post.
While it is great to see that Lee is still hopeful about the show's future, it is unlikely at this point for Lucasfilm to reverse their decision as they are seemingly adamant that they won't be continuing it for another season.
However, as Lee also said, we will never know what the future could entail and there are also ways for them to continue The Acolyte's storyline whether it's by publishing content or another spinoff series.
