Rashida Jones recently reflected on her stint in The Office and why it made sense for her to exit the series at the height of its popularity.

Before becoming a cast member in Parks and Recreation, the actress first made her mark as Karen Filippelli in The Office, where she was introduced as a rival to Pam for Jim's affection.

Rashida Jones Reflects on Her Exit from The Office

In the recent episode of the Good Hang podcast hosted by her friend and Parks and Recreation co-star Amy Poehler, Jones reflected on her recurring role in The Office and the negative reactions to her character.

"I had done a year on The Office and they let me go, which made sense. It made sense," she said.

Poehler responded, "You had such a tough job there, because everybody wanted Jim and Pam, and then guess who shows up? A very likable, cool... and everyone was like, 'Oh no, wait.'"

"It did not feel that way. People did not like me. Like, fans were not about it," Jones corrected.

Despite the backlash on her character, Jones understood that her purpose was to "create tension" between Jim and Pam.

"So I was the third point in the triangle. It's fine. I accept it," she said.

Rashida Jones' Stint in The Office

Jones showed up in the third season of The Office as Karen Filippelli, a sales representative at the Stamford branch of Dunder Mifflin before moving to Scranton during the merger.

She dated Jim throughout the season and became a rival to Pam, who was vying for his affections after breaking up with Roy.

In the end, they separated after she decided to move on to another city while Jim stayed in Scranton. She ended up becoming the regional manager of the Utica branch and married a dermatologist.

It also marked the end of Jones' recurring stint in the hit comedy series and moved on to Parks and Recreation, which was originally conceived as a spinoff of The Office before it turned into an original series.
