There is little doubt that The Eternals is one of the most highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe project this year. But is it possible that the movie also led to one of its stars having to temporarily abandon another franchise? There are speculations that The Walking Dead Season 10 was forced to leave Connie's fate ambiguous just so Lauren Ridloff could work on the MCU film.
In the ninth episode of The Walking Dead Season 10, Connie and Magna were trapped in a cave after a dynamite blast caused the exit to collapse. It's a major dilemma for the two characters but it also conveniently leaves them out of the main storyline. So was this scene written specifically for Ridloff? Showrunner Angela Kang has addressed the possibility.
"Yeah, there is some aspect of that that is true," she told Business Insider. However, she added that the show's storyline also needed for this to happen.
"I think for the story, it's actually worked out really beautifully. So I think there's some really interesting stuff that came out of it for both Carol and Daryl, and she's a character that I think is leading with emotion for both of them. So sometimes those things that you have to do, to help out a beloved actor also work out in your favor," Kang said.
Talk about hitting two birds with one stone. This conveniently allows Ridloff some time off The Walking Dead to work on The Eternals while maintaining some mystery about Connie's fate. Nevertheless, we're still hoping that Connie and Magna will be saved soon.
Ridloff has been cast as Makkari in The Eternals, which is scheduled for release on November 6. The next episode of The Walking Dead Season 10 will air on AMC on March 1.
