Kevin Smith Thinks Tom Cruise Could Succeed As X-Men’s New Wolverine

Hugh Jackman might have emphasized time and time again his retirement from his role as the X-Men franchise's James Howlett, but that doesn't mean that Fox is planning to keep Wolverine six feet under the ground forever. With Disney's acquisition of 21st Century Fox looming over the horizon, Marvel fans have started anticipating the migration of the studio's mutant characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Of course, one of the many characters that everyone hopes to see in the fray is Wolverine.

Sure, Jackman might have delivered a heart-wrenching swan song as Wolverine in Logan, but the character's just too popular to put down in the ground, and many anticipate the clawed mutant's return. Some have been wondering what it might be like if Tom Cruise were to take on the role, and according to pop culture connoisseur Kevin Smith, the action star's a ripe candidate for the part.

"I look forward to them bringing him into the comic book world," Smith said in his pop culture show with Marc Bernardin in Fatman Beyond. "Like, I think he's ripe for a Marvel takeover."

Cruise is a big name in the action movie industry, and while the Mission Impossible: Franchise has been keeping him busy, it's high time for him to move on to another field. Sure he might be older than Jackman, but honestly, we all love seeing an aged and gritty Wolverine slashing away on the big screen.

"I don't give a s***, dude. Tom Cruise's Wolverine makes a billion dollars," Smith said, commenting on Cruise's age.
