Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has set the record straight regarding the infamous cocaine joke in the Deadpool and Wolverine trailer.

There were initial concerns when Marvel Studios started developing the third Deadpool movie as fans were wondering whether the film would be able to retain its R-rated tone or it would have a family-friendly approach with the property now owned by Disney.

Fortunately, the trailers and TV spots have assured fans that the film is still an R-rated fest with graphic violence, sexual overtones, and jokes about mature subject matters such as drug use.

Kevin Feige Clarifies Cocaine Was Not Off-Limits in Deadpool and Wolverine

One of the highlights of the Deadpool and Wolverine trailers for many fans is the joke about how Feige said that cocaine use is off-limits in the movie.

While it was a hilarious breaking-the-fourth-wall joke, as it turns out, the Marvel Studios president did not ban such use as they were open to any R-rated elements.

"We were open to anything. Maybe I’m slightly prudish when it comes to drug use, but I was like, ‘Eh, it’s not that funny,’" Feige clarified in a recent interview.

With Deadpool and Wolverine being the first R-rated MCU movie, there were a lot of teachable moments for many Disney/Marvel employees when they were making the project.

"There’s a line in the red-band trailer — you don’t have to write this in the article, for crying out loud! — about pegging," Feige shared.

"I know what pegging is — it’s in the first Deadpool movie. But there were people I work with who didn’t know what it was. I had to explain it to them."

If you're still concerned regarding the film's R-rated tone and how far they are going all in, Feige's remarks should assure you that they are committed to a mature and violent style that the MCU has never seen before.

Even if the movie poked fun at the idea that drug use may not be allowed, it's still part of its commitment to making it unabashedly R-rated and, hopefully, the final cut is a true reflection of this big promise that the filmmakers have since it was first announced.

Deadpool and Wolverine is set to arrive in theaters this July 26.
