Kanye West Showers Akira With A Whole Lot Of Love On Twitter

It might come as a surprise to some, but award-winning rapper Kanye West actually seems to have some sort of fondness for anime.

Taking to Twitter, West decided to go on a posting spree, sharing a thread of messages with fans that revealed his different role models, one of which includes the anime movie, Akira. Posting on the social media platform, not only does West commend the movie, but he also calls the 1988 post-apocalyptic science fiction film adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo's manga his "biggest creative inspiration."

The rapper started the series of tweets when he posted a photo of Otomo on Twitter, praising the film and saying that every stage that he's worked on was a product of Akira.

Of course, it isn't difficult to see why West would hold Akira in such high regards. The film has been considered one of the very best anime movies of all time.

Not only is the film a landmark in Japanese animation, but it's also had a significant impact on pop culture in Japan and in many countries across the globe. A lot of shows take cues from Akira, and that includes Netflix's Stranger Things, Rian Johnson's film Looper, Wes Anderson's Isle of Dogs, and even the series The Simpsons. West's song Stronger has also been considered a direct homage to the anime movie.

Have you seen Akira? What do you think of the anime movie?
