Wizards of the Coast already revealed all the new Magic: The Gathering cards from Kaldheim and Kaldheim Commander decks, and that includes the cycle of five uncommong Aura Rune enchantment cards that will be featured in the upcoming Norse mythology-inspired set.
Rune is a new Aura enchantment card type within Kaldheim, and there's one for each of the five colors of Magic. Each Rune also lets you draw a card when it enters the battlefield, but what makes this cycle of Auras unique compared to other enchantments is how it gives a boost of ability to an equipped creature if the permanent you're enchanting with a Rune is an Equipment card. Giving you the option to enchant the Rune to an Equipment gives you less risk since Auras can also fall off when a creature it's attached to dies. Equipments are usually harder to destroy, so if the Rune is enchanted to an Equipment, opponents will have to destroy the Equipment. If they destory the equipped creature, the Equipment still stays, so you can just attached the enchanted Equipment to another creature.
Rune of Sustenance
Rune of Flight
Rune of Morality
Rune of Speed
Rune of Might
Here are the boosts that each of the five Kaldheim Runes gives:
Rune of Might: +1/+1 and Trample
Rune of Flight: Flying
Rune of Speed: +1/0 and Haste
Rune of Mortality: Deathtouch
Rune of Sustenance: Lifelink
Kaldheim also features a white rare Dwarf Warrior that lets you search for a Rune card from your library, and put it to your hand. Runeforge Champion also reduces the mana costs of Rune spells to 1. I wonder if future Magic sets will feature more Rune spells.
Kaldheim is set to release on February 5, 2021 for tabletop, and Jan. 28 on Magic Arena and Magic Online. The set will be followed by Strixhaven: School of Mages, which is set to release sometime in Spring 2021.
