Jurassic World Rebirth will finally hit the big screen on Wednesday, July 2. But before fans of the iconic dinosaur franchise can maul the latest entry harder than the dinosaurs themselves, its Rotten Tomatoes score has finally been revealed.
Directed by Gareth Edwards and written by the franchise’s original screenwriter David Koepp, the new Jurassic World movie introduces a fresh cast of characters who embark on a mission to the island of Île Saint-Hubert on behalf of a pharmaceutical company—inhabited by failed, mutated dinosaur experiments.
With the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali in the lead, here’s what critics have to say about Jurassic World Rebirth.
What is Jurassic World Rebirth’s Rotten Tomatoes Score?
Jurassic World Rebirth has a 54% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes as of this writing—down by less than four percent from its 58% debut. The score is expected to change as more reviews are published.
The film has no audience score yet, as it has yet to be released in theaters. However, it’s set to take shape once it hits the silver screen.
So far, the movie has 99 reviews, with a mixed reception.
For one, top critic Alfonso Duralde from The Film Verdict claims the latest installment in the long-running franchise “doesn’t go anywhere particularly unexpected, but the cliffhangers are choice,” giving it a Rotten rating.
But for The Hollywood Reporter’s David Rooney, it manages to live up to expectations by giving longtime fans a blast.
“Jurassic World Rebirth is unlikely to top anyone’s ranked franchise list. But longtime fans (count me among them) should have a blast,” he said.
Flick Feast’s Katie Smith-Wong also finds it the “best Jurassic film in years” after the lackluster critical success of its predecessor, Jurassic World Dominion.
“After an uneven Jurassic World trilogy, Rebirth does what it says – it has given new life to an increasingly stagnant franchise through Edwards’ exciting direction and eye-dropping visual effects, resulting in the best Jurassic film in years,” her review reads.
But no matter what these reviews say, there’s no denying that Jurassic World Rebirth proves the franchise is still going strong—over 30 years after Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park.
Is Jurassic World Rebirth Worth Watching?
While the opinions on Jurassic World Rebirth vary on its storytelling and originality, many still praise the movie for recapturing the tone and atmosphere of the original Jurassic Park.
Its standalone story makes it different from the recent sequels, putting its focus on horror, suspense, and the idea that dinosaurs are animals and not monsters.
Many even praise its standout moments, like the river chase that is adapted from author Michael Crichton's hyper-intense river raft sequence and the introduction of the Distortus rex, that make it one of the better installments.
So, from its visual effects to its realistic and suspenseful dinosaur encounters, not to mention the thrills and nostalgia, Jurassic World Rebirth is definitely worth watching.
