The second season of Daredevil saw the Man without Fear taking on the Punisher. Though their fights can get pretty intense onscreen, many fans know that some great stunt people are behind the sequences.
What’s interesting is that one stunt had Jon Bernthal almost injuring Charlie Cox while they were exchanging blows onscreen.
Jon Bernthal Almost Breaks Charlie Cox’s Rib in Daredevil
Talking to IMDb (via @ddcastarchive) while promoting Daredevil: Born Again, Cox and Bernthal were asked about the times when they got hurt while working, and it started with a conversation about how many times Bernthal has broken his nose. When asked about how many breaks Cox was responsible for, Bernthal answered, “I don’t think you’ve broken my nose. Have you broken my nose?”
Cox replied, “I’ve never. You nearly broke a rib of mine… He kicked me so hard in the chest I couldn’t breathe; like, I was winded. I had to take a minute.”
When asked if he ever returned the favor to Bernthal, Cox joked, “I don’t think I have. (to Bernthal) I’ve never hurt you, have I? Only emotionally.”
Daredevil vs. Punisher
Though both Daredevil and Punisher are known to take down criminals, the two have very conflicting ideologies. DD opts to let criminals live, while the Punisher prefers to put them down for good.
This moral dilemma had Daredevil and Punisher going after each other on the show. Still, even if the two had landed blows at one another at first, they eventually did end up teaming up in the series. After all, the Punisher may be terrible, but the Kingpin has proven to be much worse regarding physical prowess and political power.
Daredevil: Rebooted Again?
For Daredevil: Born Again, the series is expected to be a reboot of the IP that would keep some aspects from the Netflix show but properly incorporate the characters into the larger MCU.
Disney+ had been slowly planting the seeds with Kingpin in Hawkeye, and Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Born Again feels like a culmination of all the fan hype surrounding Disney taking back all of the Marvel Netflix properties.
Admittedly, the series hasn’t always been smooth sailing, constantly having to be reworked and reshot, but now it looks like Marvel has finally gotten some footing in its television department. Daredevil: Born Again is the first property to follow the traditional TV series format model with a proper series bible and a more evened-out schedule and budget.
For context, Disney+ series like Moon Knight, Hawkeye, and Ms. Marvel had been treated like long films with their development, resulting in big budgets and expensive reshoots; but with Daredevil: Born Again, there will be a return to an established system that works in TV development, and Marvel should expect to pump out some better quality television moving forward that won't depend too heavily on reshoots.
No specific premiere date has been announced for Daredevil: Born Again yet, but the series is expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in March 2025.
