Joker 2 director Todd Phillips gave fans a Valentine's treat by dropping the first look at Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. The new image shows Gaga with Joaquin Phoenix's Joker as they stare into each other's eyes, crazily intimate. The Joker franchise, which takes place outside of the main DC film properties, is continuing with this sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, which will continue the story of Arthur Fleck.
The look of Gaga as the iconic villainess was one of the things that fans looked forward to because the first glimpse of Phoenix's return as the Clown Prince of Crime was revealed in December 2022. Gaga joined the cast of the Joker sequel in August and the acclaimed actor-singer initially revealed that filming for the sequel began in January. While she did not specify that she was on set for Folie à Deux, her comments aligned with Phillips' previous comments, who confirmed that Gaga would "start with us until after the new year."
Gaga's Harley is an Elseworlds take on the DC icon, but Margot Robbie's iteration of the protagonist became iconic and well-celebrated, so fans might begin to draw some comparisons. Last year, Robbie expressed her support for Gaga, as Harley deserves to have multiple versions.

Additionally, Folie à Deux cinematographer Lawrence Sher joined in hyping the singer-actress, saying: Gaga "will create a similar kind of magic that Joaquin brought by himself." He added, “The combination of the two will be exactly what we hope, which is exciting, and we’ll find magic every day on set. Hopefully, we’ll also have a bit of madness in there. We like it when there is a little bit of chaos.”
The musical sequel to The Joker will center on the romance between the Clown Prince of Crime and Harley Quinn. Joker: Folie à deux was named after a phenomenon in which two or more people suffer from the same or similar mental disorders. Given that Joker grossed over $1 billion at the global box office when it was released in theaters in 2019, making it the highest-grossing DC film ever at the time, a second installment became a top priority for the new Warner Bros.
