J.K. Rowling recently announced the launch of her new Women’s Fund organization, which centers on advocating for women’s "sex-based rights."

The organization was established following a recent ruling by the UK Supreme Court, which determined that the legal definition of a woman refers specifically to someone who is biologically female.

The case was brought forward by For Women Scotland, a campaign group that Rowling also financially supports.

Author J.K. Rowling launched the J.K. Rowling Women’s Fund (JKRWF) on May 24, a private funding organization that aims to advocate for women fighting for their "sex-based rights," in the workplace, in public life, and in women-only spaces.

According to its official website, "It provides women with the means and confidence to bring to justice cases that make legal precedents, force policy change, and make positive contributions to women’s lives in the future."

Aside from preserving their rights, the legal fund will also provide financial assistance to women who have lost their livelihoods or faced discrimination due to gender-critical views.

Rowling, known for her feminism and vocal opposition to the trans movement, financed the fund’s creation herself, something she has also done for other groups with similar goals.

The 59-year-old is also known for supporting For Women Scotland, a campaign group that challenged the Scottish government’s definition of "woman." Therefore, the UK Supreme Court ruled under the 2010 Equality Act that the legal definition of a woman refers to someone who is biologically female.

Consequently, trans women in the UK are no longer allowed access to single-sex spaces, legal protections, and women’s sports, even if they hold a Gender Recognition Certificate.

In addition, in 2022, Rowling also funded Beira’s Place in Edinburgh, a rape crisis and sexual violence center for women. However, the center does not admit trans women.

Rowling’s views understandably continue to divide public opinion. Some have labeled her a TERF, or Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist, a term used for individuals who are seen as opposing trans-inclusive policies.

Her stance is considered "controversial" because of the extent of her opposition to trans rights, often reflected in her social media posts. Nevertheless, she has also gained supporters who share her views.

For example, following Rowling’s announcement of JKRWF, social activist and athlete Riley Gaines took to X to express her gratitude. She tweeted on May 25: "@jk_rowling is a modern day civil rights hero. Thank you."

Why Did J.K. Rowling Back Musician Doozer McDooze?

J.K. Rowling spoke out in support of Doozer McDooze, a touring musician who’s being threatened with “cancellation” by transgender individuals.

He was targeted for “not silencing” his partner, the artist Birdy Rose, who shares similar views on gender identity issues with J.K. Rowling.

However, instead of voicing her views through writing like the Harry Potter author, Birdy Rose sells products and merchandise featuring her artwork online.

One of her most well-known pieces is a drawing of a child with text on the body that reads, “There is no such thing as a trans child.”

In recent months, more and more individuals from the trans community have been calling her out, especially after she filmed a protest against a recent Supreme Court ruling.

McDooze’s career and reputation have also taken a hit because of this, and he informed his followers on X about the harassment on May 18.

Rowling showed her support by posting a screenshot of his tweet and captioning it:

"Trans activists are trying to trash the career of musician @DoozerMcDooze because he hasn't silenced his female partner, who speaks up in defence of women's rights. I've just bought an album and a T-shirt at the link below. Be a shame if anyone else did."

McDooze responded with appreciation by quoting Rowling’s post and writing, “Thanks, I really like your books.”

His partner also commented under the author’s post, “Thank you. He’s the kindest man I know.”
