- Quick Answer: Jim Parsons recently confirmed he does not plan to reprise Sheldon Cooper in a reboot, citing his twelve-year tenure and a desire for new projects.
Jim Parsons has finally broken his silence on the possibility of reprising his role as the award-winning physicist Sheldon Cooper in a rumored The Big Bang Theory reboot.
For 12 seasons, Parsons brought smiles and laughter as the brilliant yet socially unconventional theoretical physicist.
However, despite Sheldon being one of television’s most beloved characters, Parsons has no plans to return to the iconic role.
Will Jim Parsons Reprise His Role in The Big Bang Theory Reboot

Jim Parsons is looking back on his time as Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory. While he remains grateful for the experience and success, he says he has no interest in reprising the role.
“I don’t believe I would do a reboot,” he said on the April 17 episode of The View while promoting his Broadway role in Titanique. “I can’t say I miss him, partly because–especially after 12 years on a TV show where they’re writing for a specific actor–there’s a lot of me in that. Not the genius part, but there’s a lot of me in that.”
Despite that, Parsons, who won four Primetime Emmy Awards for playing Sheldon, acknowledged the character’s lasting impact on both his career and personal life.
“There’s a lot about his qualities and just who he was that I still carry with me,” he continued. “The longer time goes on, the more surprised I am when people approach me about it. Not because I’m oblivious, but because I think, ‘Oh, it makes sense,’--I’m just not thinking about it.”
He added that it’s “always really sweet” whenever fans recognize him and come up to share their appreciation.
Will There Be a The Big Bang Theory Reboot?

Airing from 2007 to 2019, The Big Bang Theory became a massive success and eventually launched a wider multimedia franchise.
CBS chose to end the show while it was still one of its most popular sitcoms, shortly before Jim Parsons’ planned departure.
While the series concluded with a satisfying ending for the Pasadena gang, most notably Sheldon Cooper achieving his dream of winning a Nobel Prize in Physics, some character storylines received more understated conclusions. This has led fans to wonder whether a reboot would ever happen to address this.
So far, however, CBS has not revealed any plans to revive The Big Bang Theory. Kunal Nayyar, who played Raj, has also suggested that a reboot may not be necessary at all.
“Look, we only ended in 2019. I’m not sure you’re legally allowed to have a reunion. What? Six years after the show ends!” he said. “I think that would obviously have to mature a little bit. Even though the show ended in 2019, it’s still on every single day, so it feels like even though the show is over, it’s still on.”
Nayyar added that if the timing were right, he would be open to returning–though he hopes he’s “not too old to wear a T-shirt for a sweater vest” because he “would love to come back on.”
