Everyone knows the cast of FRIENDS aren’t merely colleagues, they’re a family, and that included never leaving Matthew Perry with his addiction struggles behind. Now, Jennifer Aniston has admitted it’s better that the late actor went through what he did.

Here’s why.

What Exactly Does Jennifer Aniston Mean Perry’s Death is ‘Better’ This Way?

The actress recently explained in a Vanity Fair interview published Monday that she and FRIENDS cast members Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc "did everything they could" for Matthew Perry while he was still going through his addiction.

"It almost felt like we'd been mourning Matthew for a long time because his battle with that disease was a really hard one for him to fight," Aniston continued.

Even Perry himself could barely remember the times they've shot across ten seasons. Still, he fought a better fight to the end.

"As hard as it was for all of us and for the fans, there's a part of me that thinks this is better." Aniston then clarified that statement by saying she is 'glad' Perry is 'out of that pain.'

Perry passed away in October 2023, initially concluded as a result of drowning in his own pool, and then confirmed that his death was due to an overdose of ketamine.

Aniston had written him a touching tribute: "Matty, I love you so much and I know you are now completely at peace and out of any pain," the Morning Show star wrote at the time, "I talk to you every day... sometimes I can almost hear you saying 'could you BE any crazier?"

Why Didn't Matthew Perry's FRIENDS Co-Stars See His Death Coming?

On the morning of Perry's death, Aniston revealed both of them had been texting at the time, even recalling, "He was not in pain. He wasn't struggling," she said in December 2023, "He was on a pursuit. He worked so hard."

Matt LeBlanc, who considers Perry his brother on and off the set, reportedly suffered the most from the cast.

According to a source close to LeBlanc (via Radar Online), the loss hit him "like a bucket of cold water" and turned him into a "kinder, gentler version of himself." The source added that Perry's impact runs deeper than blood, having LeBlanc "make more time for others" and treat them with a "warmth they had not seen before."
