Why Did Doctor Salvador Plasencia Plead Guilty to Matthew Perry's Death?

Matthew Perry, 54, who is best known for portraying Chandler Bing on Friends, died in October 2023. Though his shocking death led many fans to believe it involved his drug addiction and constant health battles, disturbing details have arisen.

Dr. Salvador Plasencia pleaded guilty to four counts of distribution of ketamine to Perry and his death. As reported by NBC News, Plasencia made his plea in a federal courthouse on Wednesday, leading the judge to decide he will remain out of bond until his December 3 sentencing hearing.

According to the doctor's attorney, as reported by AP News, while Dr. Plasencia was "not treating Mr. Perry at the time of his death", he hopes his case "serves as a warning to other medical professionals to stricter oversight and clear protocols" to prevent future similar tragedies.

It is also worth mentioning that Plasencia, according to prosecutors and co-defendants, "illegally supplied Perry with a large amount of ketamine" about a month before his death on October 28, 2023.

The co-defendant alleged that Plasencia called Perry a "moron" to further exploit him for his money.

The doctor faces up to 40 years in prison and three years of supervised release, as well as a fine of at least $2 million, as per his agreement with prosecutors.

Meanwhile, the only remaining defendant who has yet to form an agreement with the US Attorney's Office is Jasveen Sangha, who is believed to be a drug dealer known as the "Ketamine Queen" and allegedly sold Perry the lethal dose.

What Happened to Matthew Perry and What Led to His Death in 2023?

According to Plasencia's plea agreement, he returned to Perry's home on October 12, 2023, to provide ketamine, during which the actor's blood pressure spiked, causing him to "freeze up."

Prior to what transpired recently, Perry had been found dead due to subsequent drowning, as per the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office autopsy report. His body was found floating face down in a hot tub at his Pacific Palisades home.

This initially led investigators to believe his decades-long struggles with drugs left him "falling back into addiction," which the defendants seemingly "took advantage of." As he was undergoing treatment by a psychiatrist and an anesthesiologist, he was also involved in ketamine therapy treatment.

He obtained dozens of vials of ketamine from just one of the five defendants, each vial costing at least $200, as the court documents stated.
