- Quick Answer: Jason Momoa debuts as Lobo in the DCU film Supergirl, arriving June 26, 2026; future solo projects depend on audience reception and James Gunn's plans.
Jason Momoa is once again returning to the superhero genre in the upcoming DCU film Supergirl. This time, however, he won’t be playing Arthur Curry / Aquaman. Instead, Momoa will appear as Lobo, a major antihero and interstellar bounty hunter from the DC Comics universe.
DC Studios has finally given fans their first proper look at Lobo in the recently released Supergirl teaser. As excitement builds over Momoa’s spot-on embodiment of the character, many are now wondering whether Lobo will play a bigger role in the greater DCU.
Will Lobo Appear in Other DCU Projects?
From his imposing physique to his natural self-confidence, there’s no denying that Jason Momoa is perfectly suited to portray Lobo.
In fact, playing the DC Comics antihero has long been a dream of his, with Momoa previously saying he felt he was born to play the character.
Now that he’s finally fulfilling that dream in Supergirl, the big question is whether Lobo could appear in other DCU projects.
“I only know Lobo’s in this one, and so we’ll see what the future holds. I would love for his own thing to be coming out,” Momoa told ScreenRant.
The Game of Thrones alum admitted that he doesn’t yet know if there will be another movie featuring Lobo, noting that it may ultimately depend on audience reception and how DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn plans the wider universe.
“I don’t know if there is. I think it’s probably up to the audience and how they feel about it, but I think he’s got his own things mapped out and I’m not privy to any of that,” he continued. “I think everyone’s going to be… James’s career is on par with what Zack has done—what they’ve built and the worlds they’ve created. They’re amazing directors when it comes to world-building.”
Where Can Lobo Appear in the DCU Next?

Lobo fits naturally across the DCU, though stories set beyond Earth suit him best as a cosmic bounty hunter. As an antihero, he can interact with anyone—from heroes and villains to fellow space rogues.
That said, following Supergirl, Lobo could make a cameo or have a story arc in the upcoming HBO series Lanterns. He has a long cosmic history of clashing with the Green Lanterns, and with the show’s space-cop theme, he could appear as a wanted fugitive, reluctant ally, or pure agent of chaos.
He could also appear in a Superman sequel, considering his famous clashes with Kal-El in the comics. It’s also worth noting that James Gunn enjoys setting up long-term rivalries, making Lobo a strong candidate for a future antagonist—or a comedic, ultra-violent wildcard.
Additionally, since Lobo thrives in large-scale crossover chaos, he could join the DCU’s version of the Justice League. In this setting, he’d work best as a third-party threat rather than a main villain, such as a mercenary hired to hunt a League member.
Lastly, Lobo would be a great fit for The Authority. As an ultra-violent, morally gray team, their tone aligns perfectly with Lobo’s character—whether as a temporary ally or a brutal antagonist.
Of course, Lobo could also headline his own solo movie. Given the buzz surrounding the character, it wouldn’t be surprising if DC Studios greenlights a standalone film. In fact, Deadpool 2 director David Leitch has already expressed interest in directing a Lobo movie starring Momoa if DC Studios gives the go-ahead.
Supergirl is currently slated for release on June 26, 2026.
