Jang Ki Yong talked about his Now, We Are Breaking Up co-star Song Hye Kyo while serving the military.
YG Entertainment first confirmed that Jang Ki Yong would begin his military service days after wrapping his drama with Song Hye Kyo. The agency did not reveal further details about his enlistment to follow the country’s pandemic guidelines and avoid the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
The actor also bid goodbye to his fans through a heartfelt letter on Instagram alongside a photo of himself with his short haircut. His Now, We Are Breaking Up family also shared snaps they had with him on their respective accounts to wish him good luck.
Nearly a year since he started his service, Jang Ki Yong disclosed that Song Hye Kyo and the drama’s cast members gave him strength while in the military.

Jang Ki Yong Says Song Hye Kyo Visited Him
While continuing his service, the actor made a special appearance on the SBS Power FM radio show 2 O’Clock Escape Cultwo Show on March 10 alongside EXO’s Chanyeol and ONF’s Hyojin.
Jang Ki Yong, who was wearing his military uniform, talked about their military musical Blue Helmet. He also shared his thoughts about filming Now, We Are Breaking Up and wrapping it four days before his enlistment.
Per the star, he watched what they filmed a month after arriving at his military unit. But since they filmed the parts quickly, it reportedly felt awkward on his part.

“I filmed the drama up until four days before my enlistment. I watched what we’d filmed a month after I arrived at my military unit, and maybe it was because we had to film quickly because of my enlistment, but it felt a bit awkward,” he said.
Regardless of that unwanted thought, Jang Ki Yong told DJ Kim Tae Gyun that he earned strength when Song Hye Kyo visited him. He added that the drama team came alongside his co-star.
Jang Ki Yong on Working with Song Hye Kyo in Now, We Are Breaking Up
Before his enlistment, Song Hye Kyo and Jang Ki Yong appeared in an interview with Dazed Korea Magazine. During the conversation, the actor revealed that working with Song Joong Ki’s ex-wife felt like he had achieved a goal.
“Working with Song Hye Kyo was—how should I put it? Like a goal that felt very far away. Something that I had only pictured in my imagination ended up becoming a reality sooner than I’d expected, so starting from our first drama meeting, I felt really amazed. All I could think was, ‘I need to do a good job.’ When Hye Kyo and I stood together, I wanted us to look entirely like Ha Young Eun and Yoon Jae Guk, not like senior and junior colleagues,” he said.
With the chemistry they established, fans are now hopeful the duo would have a reunion drama once Jang Ki Yong completes his military service.
