James McAvoy recently opened up about his portrayal of Professor X and offered an intriguing suggestion on what the MCU version should do.
The award-winning actor famously portrayed the fan-favorite mutant character in Fox's X-Men prequel film series. His tenure ended with Dark Phoenix, which was marked as the final installment before the rights went back to Marvel.
So far, the role has not been recast yet for the MCU reboot, but fans are looking forward to seeing what kind of direction will Marvel Studios take on Professor X when they reintroduce him again as part of the franchise.
James McAvoy Has an Idea for the MCU Version of Professor X
In a recent interview, McAvoy weighed in on the MCU version of Professor X and suggested how they should tackle their version of the iconic character.
He believes that Professor X should take the villainous route for the MCU version, which will be a radical change from the usual portrayal.
"I'd love to take him [Charles Xavier] evil. You'd love to take him bad. You'd love to make him go AWOL. There's tons you can do with that character, which is what they will do," the actor said.
"Marvel will do tons with that character, and I cannot wait to see what they do with it. It's in good hands. It's still a part that is just so ripe for exploration for whatever lucky actor gets to do it."
While McAvoy offered a compelling idea for what the new version of Professor X could do, it is unlikely that Marvel will take this direction since it would be such a massive change to the character and they might want to avoid this when they integrate the X-Men into the MCU.
For now, let's wait and see who they'll cast to play Professor X in the MCU and how they will handle this new version as the reboot is still in early development.
