James Gunn's Suicide Squad 2 Possibly Bringing Back Viola Davis As Amanda Waller

It looks like Suicide Squad 2 might actually be bringing back more familiar faces. In addition to Captain Boomerang and Harley Quinn, the James Gunn sequel could feature Viola Davis' return as the terrifying Amanda Waller.

According to The Wrap, an insider from the film has confirmed that the Emmy Award winner will reprise her role as the mysterious government official who originally brought Task Force X together. It is still unclear just how large Davis' role in the film will be but it's possible that Waller could be recruiting new metahumans to join the Suicide Squad.

Davis is the third actor from the first film who is expected to return in Suicide Squad 2. It was previously reported that Margot Robbie will be back as Harley Quinn while Jai Courtney himself confirmed that Digger Harkness will be in the sequel. This is certainly welcome news considering that we will be missing out on Will Smith as Deadshot.

Smith has already stated that he will not be in the second movie due to scheduling conflicts. Interestingly, there have been reports that the Aladdin star will be replaced by Avengers: Infinity War actor Idris Elba, who is certainly a perfect candidate to play Floyd Lawton.

Gunn will write and direct Suicide Squad 2, which will feature some new characters that might include King Shark (!!!), Ratcatcher, Polka-Dot Man, and Peacemaker. The sequel is expected to begin production in Atlanta, Georgia by September and is then scheduled for release on August 6, 2021.
