While some visual effects workers experience a stressful working environment crafting superhero films, DC Studios' James Gunn reassures that their partners won't have to worry about racing with time just to complete their assignments for the DC film & television franchise.
Superman's James Gunn Addresses VFX Workers' Success with DC Reboot
The filming for James Gunn's new DC reboot opener, Superman: Legacy, wrapped up its filming in July, even though the project began its work in late February this year.
So, what's the big secret behind the work ethic? Well, according to Gunn, it's overpreparation.
"If you do some research, you'll see my films have always taken a different approach and I've always given my VFX artist-collaborators time to do their jobs properly, and the respect they deserve," Gunn wrote on Threads last weekend.
He added that the VFX in his previous films had always been "uniformly great" because of this strategy, apart from the "amazingly talented" collaborators he worked with.
"This is why we wrapped on Superman a year before release and why they've been hard at work on many shots for months before that," Gunn explained, "This is why we start heartily editing during the shoot. It's why I prepare so vigorously and why we only shoot finished screenplays. I can't praise the VFX artists that help us create magic enough."
Previously, Gunn also advised that overpreparation with a finished script is the way to go, "Hire actors and department heads I know can do their jobs. Surround myself with people who will challenge me and not just yes-sir everything."
James Gunn's Superman: Legacy is set to star David Corenswet as the titular DC hero sporting the cape, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl, among others.
