James Gunn on Peter Quill's Reaction to Being Back on Earth in Avengers: Endgame

Though Peter Quill comes from Earth, the Guardians of the Galaxy films have been sure to keep him separated from his home planet. He does come back home for Avengers: Endgame, and according to Guardians director James Gunn, Quill wasn't too happy to be back where he came from.

When asked by a fan what Quill's reaction to being back on Earth was, Gunn confirmed on Twitter:

If anything, some people think this is some kind of set-up for Quill's character arc in the third film. It's said that Quill's grandfather is still alive on Earth, and he was even supposed to be reintroduced in the second film. With Gunn supposedly closing the arc of this roster of the Guardians with the third movie, it would make sense for Peter to finally have that closure that he needs by reconciling with his feelings for his home planet.

For now, Gunn is still working on the DCEU's The Suicide Squad, and the quarantine is sure to slow down the process. The good thing is, principal photography has wrapped for the movie, and the movie probably just needs pick-ups down the line.

As for Guardians Vol. 3, it's said that the film was aiming for a start later this year. With the lockdown though, we could be looking at the schedule being pushed further down the line. Though it would be a bummer, we don't really have a choice because of the global pandemic we're all currently experiencing.

No release date has been set for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but Gunn's The Suicide Squad comes out Aug. 6, 2021.
