IU Accused of Plagiarism

Korea JoongAng Daily cited the reports from the media outlets, revealing that IU's songs were mentioned in the report.

In the document filed to the Seoul Gangnam Police Station, it alleged that IU plagiarized Good Day, Red Shoes, Bbibbi, pitiful, Boo, and Celebrity using local and overseas musicians' past releases. The law firm that submitted the filing on behalf of the complainant said it could file the case since the singer "habitually violated intellectual property rights."

The music copyright infringements can only be filed by the only copyright holder, but the law firm said a third party is allowed to report the case since IU did it six times.

"For several months we have been aware that posts alleging plagiarism and carrying false rumors based on unverified claims have been spreading via online communities, social media and YouTube," the agency said, per The Korea Herald. "We have been collecting data (about such behavior), and ... based on the data, have filed a complaint to the investigative authority."

Aside from the plagiarism accusations, IU was also subject to talks involving sexual harassment, false rumors, and defamation.

Edam Entertainment added that it had not been informed of the report officially.
