Martians have always been perceived as villains. In Invincible, however, not all are evil; just like Martian Man. In Invincible season 2, we meet a new Martian. Is Shapesmith evil in Invincible? Here's what we know.

Meet Shapesmith

Shapesmith is a Martian who has taken the identity of astronaut Rus Livingston (voiced by Ben Schwartz). Meanwhile, the real Rus Livingston is back on Mars with his mind being controlled by a Sequid.

Although he is capable of shapeshifting into the appearance of Rus, Shapesmith is horrible at being a human. In fact, he gets fired at NASA and earns an eviction notice from his landlord.

With these, the Martian starts to doubt his decision to replace the human. But he discovers a newfound purpose after learning about Martian Man on TV.

He learned that Martian Man was the first Martian superhero who helped defend humans.

This inspires him to become a superhero, going with the name Shapesmith, after his ability to shapeshift. Of course, he keeps his real identity as a Martian secret from the humans.

As a Martian, he is part of the rebel movement. This makes him different from the corrupt Martian monarch. He also hates his planet, which is why he is so keen to be on Earth.

Still, does that mean Shapesmith is evil in Invincible?

Shapesmith is the first to alert humans of the incoming Martian fleet that plans to invade Earth. Of course, this was under the command of the Sequids that controlled the real Rus Livingstone to attack the planet.

Because of Shapesmith's warning, the Guardians of the Globe were able to assemble and prepare ahead of time.

Other than this, he was able to fight against the Lizard League and Doc Seismic.

How Does Shapesmith Help the Guardians in Invincible Season 2 Episode 6?

In Invincible season 2 episode 6, Shapesmith becomes a hero by transforming into a bubble so he can shield the Guardians.

When the Sequid parasites manage to breach the bubble, they are met with Eve's new defense bubble.

Later, as the Guardians chase after the fleeing Martian warship controlled by the Sequids, the native Martians thank them for their service. They also ask for Shapesmith to be returned to them since he was responsible for the trouble in the first place.
