The new murder mystery film The Thursday Murder Club finally arrived on Netflix. It is based on the best-selling novel by Richard Osman and features an all-star cast of veteran and award-winning British actors.
Some fans are already wondering whether the film will get a sequel, considering that the novel has also spawned a best-selling book series with multiple follow-ups centering on the same set of main characters and different murder cases. Let's explore what we know so far about the new film's potential sequel.
Is The Thursday Murder Club Movie Getting a Sequel?

So far, Netflix and Amblin Entertainment have not announced any plans to develop a sequel to The Thursday Murder Club.
If ever they decide to do a follow-up, they won't have any trouble looking for source material since they can have the sequel's story based on the second book, The Man Who Died Twice.
Helen Mirren has expressed interest in doing a sequel, given that she had a great experience working on the first film.
"[I’d do another] in a nanosecond. And it would be the team getting back together, which would be great. We did have a wonderful time shooting this. So all of us would jump at the chance, quite honestly," she told Radio Times.
Meanwhile, director Chris Columbus said in another interview that the possibility of a sequel might depend on the viewership numbers in its first weekend of availability on Netflix, but he is also open to directing the follow-up.
"It’s all based on how many people watch the film over the first weekend, and we will know in about 10 days if we’re making a sequel. As far as I’m concerned, and I don’t want to speak for everyone else, but I would come back in a second," he said.
"It was fantastic, and I would prefer to do two and three back to back, I would say – why not, you know, we’re at the castle, let’s spend 100 days and make both films."
What Is The Thursday Murder Club About?
The Thursday Murder Club, based on Richard Osman's novel, follows four irrepressible retirees who spend their time solving cold case murders for fun, but their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn when they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands.
Aside from Mirren, the cast also includes Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, Celia Imrie, Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, David Tennant, Paul Freeman, Geoff Bell, Richard E. Grant, and Ingrid Oliver.
The novel has sold over 15 million copies worldwide, become the UK’s best-selling book of the decade, and been translated into 46 languages. It is the first in a series of four novels, with a fifth installment releasing in bookstores this fall.
