Recent rumors suggested that Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio is set to make a cameo appearance in the upcoming season 3 of the Netflix hit Squid Game.
The series recently made its long-awaited return with a new season that garnered a record-breaking viewership record and achieved similar social media success as the first season.
Later this year, it is set to return with a third and final season and fans are looking forward to seeing how it will conclude Gi-hun's journey.
Is Leonardo DiCaprio Set to Appear in Squid Game Season 3?
Korean news outlet OSEN claimed in an exclusive report that DiCaprio is set to make a surprise cameo appearance in season 3 of Squid Game.
They didn't reveal which role he will allegedly play in the new season, but it is said to be a small role.
However, after the news of the Oscar winner's rumored appearance became viral, Netflix quickly denied the report and confirmed that DiCaprio is NOT showing up in the hit show's third and final season.
"The rumors are completely false. Reports of Leonardo DiCaprio’s involvement in Squid Game Season 3 are entirely unfounded," a rep for Netflix said in a statement.
While it would have been a great surprise to see a massive A-lister like DiCaprio appear in the series, fans should not count on that possibility to happen.
What to Expect in Squid Game Season 3
As fans know, season 2 of Squid Game ended on a major cliffhanger as Gi-hun and the other players failed to do a successful uprising against the Front Man and the people in charge of the game.
There is also an unresolved storyline regarding Jung-ho and his mercenaries as they attempt to find the mysterious Squid Game island and rescue Gi-hun.
Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk recently teased what they have in store for the upcoming season which is slated to release later this year.
"I am beyond excited to be writing this letter to announce the date for Season 2 and share the news of Season 3, the final season," he shared in a statement.
"The fierce clash between [Gi-hun and Front Man’s] two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year."
Hwang also teased, "I am thrilled to see the seed that was planted in creating a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of this story. We’ll do our best to make sure we bring you yet another thrill ride."
