Speaking at a 25th anniversary screening for The Fast and the Furious, Vin Diesel revealed that shooting for Fast Forever, the eleventh and said to be the final installment, is slated to officially commence by December 2026.

"We start shooting in December, if I can make good on the request from the studio," Diesel confirmed to Variety. "I'm in a good place though. I had to go through four sets of writers, four years of development, to get to something that I felt would be worthy of a finale. And when I read the script a couple of weeks ago, [I cried]."

Diesel read the finalized script by Mike Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) and was brought to tears by the emotional finale.

While Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, Fast X) has yet to read the full script, he teased, "I'd love to tell you the full truth, but I can't. There will be an ending, and it's great. I was very, very lucky to be part of the franchise, and I love Vin, and I love Universal. They're great to work with. So yeah. We'll see, hopefully."

Set to be directed by Leterrier, production will return to Los Angeles and street racing roots, setting up its grand theatrical debut on March 17, 2028.

Why the Fast & Furious Franchise Still Landed a Sequel After Promising Fast X is the Last

Despite Fast X being heavily marketed as the beginning of the end of the high-speed franchise, Fast 11 is set to be the actual end of the franchise.

When asked whether Fast Forever is the true finale of the Fast & Furious cinematic franchise, Diesel admittedly said he was 'wrong' for once saying 'no sequels' after Fast X came out on May 19, 2023.

With Fast X ending on multiple cliffhangers, such as leaving Dom and his son Little B stranded beneath a collapsing dam while Dante Reyes sets his sights on Luke Hobbs as his next target via the mid-credits scene, Fast 11 is vital to resolving these open threads to deliver the proper grand finale for the saga.
