Amazon Studios’ Daisy Jones & the Six is based on the 2019 novel of the same name written by Taylor Jenkins Reid. The series has a documentary style which makes it feel realistic. In the series’ set-up, the band members talk about their infamous split 20 years later. This, along with the band being a 70s rock band, leaves fans wondering if Daisy Jones & The Six is based on a true story, or if it’s fiction. So is Daisy Jones & The Six a work of fiction?
The answer is yes, Daisy Jones and The Six, along with the rest of the characters, is entirely fictional.

What is Daisy Jones & The Six Based On?
Even if Daisy Jones & the Six is a fictional rock band, it was inspired by a real rock band – Fleetwood Mac. Billy Dunne and Daisy Jones are also loosely based on Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham’s relationship dynamic.
The author, Jenkins Reid, was first inspired by Fleetwood Mac when she saw them perform in the 1990s. She was amazed by Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham's performance, and how they were able to act like they were in love after a breakup.
Jenkins Reid shared with Hello Sunshine that she "wanted to write a story about that, about how the lines between real life and performance can get blurred, about how singing about old wounds might keep them fresh."

Stevie and Lindsey’s relationship struck her to the point that she decided to write a book about it.
Jenkins Reid saw the passion in Fleetwood Mac’s songs, like “Silver Springs”. This inspired her to write a romance between two singers where they talk about their attraction towards each other through the songs they write.
But the series also has other parallels to the famous band Fleetwood Mac. For instance, Daisy and Billy, just like Stevie and Lindsey, weren't the only band members in love. The band’s keyboardist Karen Sirko, and guitarist Graham Dunne also become a couple, just like Fleetwood Mac’s bass guitarist John McVie and keyboardist Christine McVie.
And lastly, Fleetwood Mac disbanded following band members dealing with drug addiction. Daisy & Billy’s drug addiction was also one of the causes that led to the split of Daisy Jones & The Six.
So, even if Daisy Jones & The Six isn’t exactly a true story, it’s inspired by one of the greatest rock bands – Fleetwood Mac.
