With The Batman Part II set to begin filming later this year, fans have been wondering whether Andy Serkis will be reprising his role of Alfred Pennyworth in the sequel.

The veteran actor's performance as Bruce Wayne's butler and mentor in the first film was praised by fans, and they hope he will return in the next installment. However, considering that he is also busy working on Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, there have been questions about whether he can still participate.

Deadline has confirmed that Andy Serkis is officially set to return as Alfred Pennyworth in The Batman Part II. The project is set to begin filming in London this June.

The scheduling between his filming days in The Batman Part II and working as a director for Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum was resolved, so he is not expected to do both projects.

In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Serkis teased that he "won't be joining [the sequel] immediately" because of his work on The Hunt for Gollum, but he is excited to return to the world of The Batman.

"I obviously can't say too much about the film other than that I am really excited about going back into the world and working with Matt Reeves again, who I've now worked with a number of times, and he's a dear friend, and Rob [Pattinson]," he said.

"And the script and the story and the new story really does speak to Matt as a human being and what he feels about life. Rob and he got on brilliantly. And I can't say any more than that, but yeah, the relationship continues to be one of a very close, slightly at odds, but beautiful relationship."

It remains unknown whether Serkis will have fewer scenes in the movie, given his seemingly limited participation in the project.

Robert Pattinson, Colin Farrell, and Jeffrey Wright are all expected to reprise their roles from the first film. Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan are joining the cast.
