There is little doubt that people are thrilled now that Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Stephen Strange in Spider-Man 3. However, there's at least one person who isn't exactly thrilled with the idea that Doctor Strange will serve as Peter Parker's new mentor. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse director Peter Ramsey has just stated that the webslinger doesn't need to have another mentor.
In Spider-Man: Homecoming, Tony Stark served as Peter's father figure and mentor. However, with Tony gone, Doctor Strange is now expected to take on the role in the third movie. However, Ramsey pointed out that this isn't exactly what Peter needs right now.
"I hope he's just a 'special guest star'," Ramsey tweeted in reference to Doctor Strange. "Don't know why Spidey needs a mentor...one of the things I always liked in the old comics was that he was a loner, grappling with things on his own, not beloved or accepted like the Avengers or the FF."
Ramsey does have a point there. In the comics, Peter operated on his own and still managed to get the job done. On the other hand, the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of the character does seem lost at times and would probably need a helping hand. Nevertheless, we're still excited about the fact that Cumberbatch will be reunited with Tom Holland in Spider-Man 3.
Do you agree with Ramsey that Peter doesn't need a new mentor? Sound off in the comments below.
