Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo is stepping on a different territory in the upcoming Hulu limited series Good American Family. After years of anticipation, a release date has finally been set.

The project marks Pompeo's first major TV project after Grey's Anatomy. While she is still involved in the hit ABC medical series in a lesser capacity, this is a significant career move for the actress as she gets the chance to showcase her different acting side.

Hulu Announces Release Date for Good American Family

It was recently announced that Good American Family is set to premiere its first two episodes on Hulu on Wednesday, March 19.

New episodes will be released weekly. The series will also be available in international markets via Disney+.

They also unveiled the first look photos, giving fans their early glimpse at the new series and the characters including Pompeo's Kristine Barnett.

Aside from Pompeo, the series also stars Mark Duplass, Imogen Reid, Dulé Hill, Christina Hendricks, Sarayu Blue, and Jenny O’Hara.

Based on a true story, Good American Family follows a "Midwestern couple who adopt a Ukrainian child who has a rare form of dwarfism. But over time, they become suspicious that she is not a child at all and are concerned their lives are in danger."

This is not the first time that the real-life case has been featured in the media, as it was also the subject of the Investigation Discovery documentary series The Curious Case Of Natalia Grace.

Ellen Pompeo Addresses Starring in Good American Family

In a recent interview, Pompeo explained why she decided Good American Family to be her first major TV project after Grey's Anatomy.

"I just thought taking this on would be a land mine. This is a scary thing for me to even entertain because it’s intense stuff, and it deals with children and it deals with children who are neurodivergent and have disabilities. This just seems like really tricky stuff," she said.

The actress shared that playing Kristine Barnett in Good American Family is the kind of role that she was looking for.

"You’ve always been looking for something to show a completely different color than what you’ve been showing people for 20 years and this is it," Pompeo recalled her conversation with her agent. "So I said, ‘Okay, well, let’s dig in.’"

Pompeo added, "There’s a tremendous amount of pressure on me. Why would anybody believe that I could do anything other than play Meredith Grey, myself included?"
