If there's anything Star Wars is afraid of, it's being intimidated by the scale of its franchise. A recent interview with Starfighter director Shawn Levy details how the upcoming film plans on following Stranger Things' footsteps.

Stranger Things is far too big-scaled not to influence future generations of series creations, and that happens to include the Star Wars franchise. Considering the time Levy worked on the series finale, here's how he believes the Netflix hit could impact the upcoming movie, Starfighter, in its own way.

"If I've learned anything on Stranger Things, it's that you can get intimidated by the scale of the franchise expectation," Levy explained to The Hollywood Reporter, "But you will lose your way if that's your focus. I've learned the need to stay rooted in character, and themes, and relationships on screen."

Levy added that while he had never done similar scales such as Star Wars and Starfighter in his career, he does recount that he managed to contribute to the Netflix flagship series' finale, "But like Stranger Things, it's also very much anchored in a human-scale character-sized story."

"I think that if I can balance the epic and the intimate the way the Duffers have with Stranger Things, I'll make a movie and an original and new Star Wars adventure that can be really satisfying to fans and audiences," Levy said.

What Star Wars Fans Can Expect from Starfighter

Starfighter and its director are going to need all the luck and help they can get. This would mark the franchise's first movie since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, with The Mandalorian and Grogu coming out on May 22, 2026.

But if it's a unique storyline fans are looking for, Starfighter, set five years after The Rise of Skywalker, follows grizzled starfighter pilot (played by Ryan Gosling), as he is forced to protect a Force-sensitive nephew (Flynn Grey) on a "perilous journey across a rebuilding galaxy" as the film sets up a new legacy for the new era of the franchise.

Frankly, no official premise has been disclosed yet, as of writing, but the failure of the 2019 releases should redirect how the franchise should focus on its material.

Stranger Things, for one, has a potential chance, if the conformity gate theory is true, and that a secret hidden last episode is releasing sometime soon.

Meanwhile, fans can wait until Star Wars: Starfighter premieres on the big screens on May 28, 2027.
