The showrunner of The Boys recently teased what's next for the Gen V characters following the spinoff show's shocking cancellation.

Recently, we learned the unfortunate news that Prime Video has pulled the plug on Gen V after two seasons. It prompted questions among fans on how they might continue the characters' journey in the Vought universe to address some of the unresolved storylines. Fortunately, it looks like they might still see more of them in the future.

In an interview with EW, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke addressed the cancellation of Gen V and their plans to continue the characters' journey in another potential spinoff.

"I did not cancel the show. One, I don't have the power to do that. Two, I was fighting to keep the show, almost more than anybody else on Earth. So I'm as bummed as everybody else out there," he said.

"We're still hopeful we can find a way to do it. So, unfortunately, I can't share it. [There is] this idea that Marie is powerful, but that's not the end of her story. She has to learn how to control it."

Kripke noted that they're concentrating on Vought Rising as the next spinoff that they are releasing, but they already have discussions on how they will continue the Gen V characters in another project in the Vought universe.

"It's very early days, because we're focusing on getting Vought Rising out into the world, but Amazon has expressed an interest, and they want to hear more potential stories in the world," he said.

"So we're internally brainstorming a couple different ideas. We'll see which ones get traction, but they all have the opportunity to absorb at least some of the Gen V gang, and that's very much by design."

Kripke also reminded fans that the decision to cancel Gen V by Prime Video was based on a business decision.

"It's based on amount of viewers versus how expensive the show is to make, and does it make business sense for them, ultimately? And, unfortunately, they decided that it didn't," he said.

What's Next in The Boys Franchise

The fifth and final season of The Boys is currently airing new episodes every Wednesday on Prime Video. Five episodes have aired so far, and three episodes have yet to air as of this writing.

The next spinoff series is Vought Rising, which will star Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy and Aya Cash as Stormfront, reprising their roles from the main series.

The prequel is a twisted, noir-inspired murder mystery that delves into the 1950s origins of Vought International. It tracks the early exploits of Soldier Boy alongside the ruthless maneuvers of Clara Vought (the woman fans would eventually know as Stormfront).

They have strikingly similar origins rooted in the work of Frederick Vought. Soldier Boy stands as the first American non-aging superhero, a product of World War II experimentation. He is joined by Stormfront, who served as Frederick Vought’s first successful test subject. Having married the creator before their move to the United States, her presence in the 1950s highlights the deeply personal and diabolical history behind the Vought empire’s rise to power.
