After the death of Lucerys (Elliot Grihault) in the first season finale, House of the Dragon Season 2 will be "about the kids."
The civil war is now heating up and even getting more intense with the surprising death of Lucerys and his dragon, Arrax, after being devoured by Aemond's (Ewan Mitchell) gigantic dragon, Vhagar. As this brought attention to the Targaryen kids, House of the Dragon Season 2 will shift its focus on Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy) and Alicent Hightower's (Olivia Cooke) children.
House of the Dragon Season 2 Plotline
In an interview with IndieWire, showrunner Ryan Condal, who replaced Miguel Sapochnik following his departure, revealed that the second season would be about the kids after becoming young adults and having their own dragons.

House of the Dragon Season 2's Focus
The first season mostly focused on the developing conflict between Rhaenyra and Alicent.
They were once closed as kids until they fell out in adulthood following Alicent's romance with Rhaenyra's father, King Viserys (Paddy Considine).

Multiple time jumps happened, and their kids were eventually introduced, with the show slightly shifting its focus to the new generation of Targaryens.
The two mothers' feud is passed on to their children, like when Luke slashes Aemond's eye. Even their dragons fight.
As they're now in their battling age and are fighting in the war of succession, they're all willing to put their lives on the line to defend their families' claim to the throne.

By the looks of it, Lucerys will not only be the casualty in the upcoming civil war.
